DIY Feature - Ian Schumacher

Ian's reason for wanting a Teardrop was very similar to ours, the flexibility of being able to go just about anywhere.

Ian built has teardrop in Grans Forks, ND using our DIY Vaga plans. Here’s some insight on his build!

What made you want to build a tiny camper?

It has the ability to tow behind almost any vehicle.

What was your experience level with the skills required to build a camper (wood working, electrical, metal work, etc.) when you started?

I have had some experience with welding, woodwork, and electrical.

What was the first step in your build?

Welding the frame.

What was your favorite part of the build?

My favorite part of the build was having my father teach me new techniques with woodwork.

What was the most difficult part of the build?

The most difficult part of the build would be assembling the hatch and hinges.

How long did it take you?

It took us about 8 months to finish.

If you're comfortable sharing, what was the total cost of the build?

The total cost was about 6-7 thousand.

What has been the best part of owning a tiny camper?

The best part about owning a tiny camper is the size and low weight. It can go just about anywhere.

How did using Wander Tears DIY plans and having the resources provided affect your build process and time?

It helped us when we were stuck with measurements.
