DIY Feature - Hayden and Emma
This week is an extra special Feature, with Paige’s sister Emma, and her fiancé, Hayden! After working in the Wander Tears shop for a month, Hayden and Emma set off to build their own teardrop in Australia. Although, it’s not your average teardrop camper, it’s actually an outdoor taproom!
Hayden and Emma built their teardrop in Sydney, using our DIY Vaga plans. Here’s some insight on their build!
What made you want to build a tiny camper?
I was lucky enough to work with the great man Danny at the wander tear’s headquarters for a month and he gave me the inspiration to give it a go myself.
What was your experience level with the skills required to build a camper (wood working, electrical, metal work, etc.) when you started?
Basic woodworking.
What was the first step in your build?
Buying the trailer.
What was your favorite part of the build?
The final screw.
What was the most difficult part of the build?
Definitely the hatch.
How long did it take you?
Roughly 3 months of weekends.
If you're comfortable sharing, what was the total cost of the build?
About $8000 AUD.
Would you do anything differently?
I should have bought a drop saw to get 90 and 45 degree cuts perfect.
What has been the best part of owning a tiny camper?
The best part has been pouring and sharing a beer with friends.
Any tips for someone that wants to build a tiny camper but doesn’t know where to start?
Just start! The hardest part it’s definitely the beginning. The build may seem quite daunting at first but it’s really just a series of simple steps one at a time.
How did using Wander Tears DIY plans and having the resources provided affect your build process and time?
Everyone needs to know that Danny is a genius when it comes to building a teardrop.
