DIY Feature - Dave Young

As someone that loves the look of the vintage teardrop trailers, Dave Young decided to build one for his portable bar business, Park ‘n ‘ Pour.

Dave built his teardrop in Camperdown Vic Australia, using our  DIY Vaga Plans. Here’s some insight on his build!

What made you want to build a tiny camper?

I wanted to build a portable bar for our business and love the look of vintage teardrop campers.

What was your experience level with the skills required to build a camper (wood working, electrical, metal work, etc.) when you started?

I build convert vans to campervans for a living through my business Fit to Trip. But have never built a trailer/tear drop.

What was the first step in your build?

Planning planning and more planning. We had to alter the plans we purchased from you in order to fit a cool room in the center and add a extra storage cabinet at the front.

What was your favorite part of the build?

Pouring that first beer.

What was the most difficult part of the build?

Planning stage was very challenging but your plans made all those finer details a lot easier to work out.

How long has it taken you?

Completed it in 5 weeks, not including planning stage

If you're comfortable sharing, what was the total cost of the build?

Parts only were around the 20k mark.

Would you do anything differently?

Pretty happy with everything to be honest.

What has been the best part of owning a tiny camper?

Just excited to see how well this business will go and the lifestyle it may let our family live.

Any tips for someone that wants to build a tiny camper but doesn’t know where to start?

First, purchase a plan from you guys. And do as much research as you can before beginning.

How did using Wander Tears DIY plans and having the resources provided affect your build process and time?

The main thing your plans helped with were the finer details like construction of the doors and how to finish off the edges and get a nice seal.

Travel is an investment in yourself.
