Pros:
Empty! In mid-September, we were the only people at the campsite, until one fisherman joined a few sites down the next morning.
Lakefront Property. The campsites are located at a higher elevation than the water, and each one has access to the lake after a short path.
A toilet! Guys, usually vaulted toilets smell like death, but I kid you not, this one does not!
Sunsets. The sunset was absolutely beautiful as it sank below the trees on the far side of the lake. Pro Tip: Set up a Hammock and grab a beverage for the show.
Cons:
Ants. All the ants. They have burrowed into the trees and were pretty obnoxious at times. (DO NOT leave your hammock up overnight...)
Trash. There was some trash left at our site when we arrived. Make sure to pack out EVERYTHING and always leave camp better than you found it.
Our Experience
We came across Leroys Ferry Campground after looking for a site to get off the beaten path for a night, not too far from home. We were pleasantly surprised by what we found!
Having the place all to ourselves, Nola was able to run wherever she desired, which obviously meant a b-line for the lake. It was the perfect little getaway, and we are planning on going back once the leaves change colors on the perimeter of the lake.
The only negative we found was the ants. There were a ton down by the lake, but we didn't have any issues at camp on the day/night we arrived. However, the next day they must have followed us up because there were many more present.
